The purpose of this paper is to obtain the explicit formula for evaluating the
average run length (ARL) on anextended exponentially weighted moving average control
chart (EEWMA). This chart was developed for detecting and controlling process mean
variation for time series models. In general, the most commonly used measure of the
performance of the control chart is determined by the average run length (Average Run
Length: ARL). Therefore, in this research, the explicit formula of ARL for EEWMA control
chart is presented. The Performance comparison of the explicit formula and the
numerical integral equations method (NIE) is carried out using the absolute percentage
relative error and CPU time. Furthermore, the CUSUM, EWMA and the EEWMA control
charts are compared. In addition, the explicit formula is successfully applied to realworld data and can be applied to other control charts.
