Opisthorchiasis caused by Opisthorchis viverrini infection is a risk factor of
cholangiocarcinoma and still a health problem in Northeast, Thailand. This study aimed to
develop the strategies to prevention and control the liver fluke Infection in Huay Luang
Dam Areas, Udon Thani Province. The health assurance planning was done including
human control, environment management, technical development and community participate
program. The prevalence of O. viverrni infection in 5,719 participant (2,592 male
(45.32%) and 3,127 female (54.68%)) were found 26.0 %. The relative risk factors
were statistically significant in male compared to female, in aged over 50 years (P=0.035;
95%CI=0.5-6.3), educated primary school level (P=0.000; 95%CI=3.2-18.00), farmer
and agriculture (P=0.033; 95%CI=1.3-14.5), eating raw fish behavior (P=0.044;
95%CI=0.9-11.2). In first year research, we have developed the health assurance
planning to perform the activity in community under the program of the prevention and
control program. Health education in liver fluke and cholangiocarcinoma for participants,
technician and leader of community were performed. The incorporation of various units will
be part strategies for rural development in liver fluke infection prevention and control.
