บทคัดย่อ
Plantar fasciitis (PF) is the most common cause of heel pain in adults and more than one million patients reccive the treatments annually. Nowadays, health literacy is becoming an important issue in addressing sustainable health care system. Stretching exercise is an effective and requires no cost of treatment for PE. It improves the overall function of foot and ankle and also reduces the pain. A home-based exercise program is recommended for patients to improve their clinical signs. Biomechanical alterations could play as a possible cause of functional limitation and other clinical signs. So, the study aims to investigate the effect of a home-based stretching exercise program of gastrocnemius and solcus muscles and plantar fascia on the multi-segmental foot motion and clinical signs in individuals with PF. Participants were taught the home-based exercise program by physical therapist. They also obtained video clip and logbook, containing the exercise program to follow the training correctly for 3 weeks. Participants were re-checked and progressed the exercise program with physical therapist every week. They were assessed for the plantar fascitis pain and disability scale, muscle strength, and muscle length every week. In addition, the multi-segment foot motion was assessed before exercise and after 3 weeks of exercise. The results show that a home-based stretching exercise program decreases pain, increases ankle plantar flexors, ankle invertors, ankle evertors, great toe flexors, and lesser toe flexors strength after 3 weeks of exercise. The findings suggest that a home-based stretching exercise program is effective to improve pain and muscle strength in individuals with PF.
