บทคัดย่อ
To begin with some of the positive outcomes from this project. Matlab models were built for a stirling engine and the kinematic linkage at its output, see Appendix 1 and 2. This was done by two final year project groups. A design was built in solidworks based on the Matlab models. The design incorporated both the combustor and the stirling engine. Detailed part drawings were completed and both combustor and stirling were built and constructed. The parts were manufactured at a local supplier. The first project objective, the actual combustion nozzle design was a success. Small quantities of gasoline could be combusted efficiently and cleanly. There are potentially other applications and uses for this nozzle design. A 3D printed version of the nozzle was purchased. This eliminated alignment problems between the fuel tube and the nozzle exit. It did raise the pressure inside the nozzle to 30kPa but that was not a major issue. In addition the project yielded a method to estimate the droplet size from the nozzle without a laser doppler phase analyzer which is explained in chapter 3. The second objective of the project was also completed. A combustion chamber and stirling engine were design and built. In addition to this output, 6 undergraduate students wrote final year theses on the Matlab design and a graduate student obtained a master’s degree by working on the first project objective. This project ended up being a much bigger project than anticipated. In addition to the combustion chamber and the engine there was about 8 sub-systems that needed to be designed and built too. The challenges and issues that were faced in this project are as follows: The goal of testing the stirling engine integrated with the combustion chamber has not been completed yet as of the time of writing this final report. The combustion chamber was tested briefly but did not output a stable heat source for the engine. There are numerous reasons for this that are outlined in Chapter 4. Other specific challenges are listed in section 12 Overall two of the three project objectives were met. The final objective was just not possible to meet as it was a very ambitious task that needed more personnel and resources.
